I've been looking into the Hubert Helligar case, and one thing that puzzles me is the lack of any emergency communication from him. As an experienced pilot, wouldn't Helligar have tried to radio in if something went wrong during the flight? It's odd that there seems to be no distress call or signal picked up from him at all. This makes me wonder if whatever happened was so sudden that he never got the chance. It also makes me think about the possibilities of mechanical failure vs. something else entirely. Has anyone found information on whether there were any maintenance issues with the Cessna 150 he rented? I feel like this angle might be worth exploring further.
Anyone else find it strange that there seems to be no record of Hubert's flight path that day? Even in 2000, airports had protocols for tracking small aircraft. It’s puzzling that neither air traffic control reports nor radar data have helped locate the plane. Sometimes I wonder if there was a deviation from the planned route, intentionally or unintentionally. Could weather have played a bigger role or possibly a mechanical issue that forced an emergency landing? And what about his experience? As an experienced pilot, Hubert should have known to file a flight plan or have basic communication with the tower. The lack of any such data seems odd to me, making it even more mysterious as to what really happened that day. Thoughts?
Does anyone else find it odd that there was no distress signal or any radio contact from Hubert Helligar’s plane before it vanished? I’ve read that experienced pilots like him usually have emergency procedures drilled into their routine. Even in a sudden crisis, you'd expect some form of communication or signal. Could there have been a technical failure that prevented it? Or maybe weather issues that contributed to no communication? It’s puzzling how both he and the plane just seemed to disappear without a trace. I feel like there might be more to uncover about the flight conditions on that day. Any thoughts on what could have gone wrong or if authorities have any theories about this aspect?
