I’ve been thinking a lot about that note Shane left in his truck. The spelling errors and emotional ramblings made me wonder if they reflected a deeper issue, like maybe he was in an altered state of mind. It’s hard to fathom the torment that must’ve been running through his mind when he decided to take the lives of Sandy, Shasta, and Shelby. My heart goes out to the surviving family members who have to read and hear about these details. It reminds me of how mental health can be a ticking time bomb if not addressed, and I wish there had been more interventions before it reached this horrible point. I hope that more awareness and resources can be directed towards mental health and domestic violence prevention to avoid such tragedies in the future. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Has anyone else been struck by the fact that Shane Miller decided to pull the girls out of school a month before the tragedy? It really makes me wonder what was going through his mind and what his intentions were. It's chilling to think that such an innocent decision as homeschooling could have been a part of his plan all along. My heart goes out to Shasta and Shelby, who must have loved spending time with friends and learning in a safe environment. The idea that they were taken away from that and then subjected to this horrific act is just beyond comprehension. The community and family must be feeling such a profound sense of loss. If anyone has insights or similar stories, I’d be keen to hear how they coped or what can be done to help families spot red flags sooner.
