Has anyone else been thinking about the heroism of the first responders at Santa Monica College during the tragic events on June 7, 2013? It breaks my heart to think about what they walked into that day. Their courage under such unimaginable circumstances can't be overstated. While the loss of Carlos Navarro Franco and all other victims is beyond tragic, I’m grateful that the police and emergency workers acted quickly to end the rampage and prevent further loss of life. My thoughts are with the families and friends of everyone involved. If you have any more info or thoughts on how these incidents are handled, especially regarding first responders, please share. The way they work to protect others in the face of such danger is truly remarkable.
I've been thinking a lot about how incredibly unfair it is that Carlos Navarro Franco, a hard-working groundskeeper who dedicated so much of his life to Santa Monica College, was ripped away from his family and colleagues in such a senseless act of violence. From everything I've read, he seemed like a gentle, kind-hearted person who genuinely cared about the people and the place he worked for over 20 years. Can you imagine the shock and pain his loved ones must be feeling? It's infuriating and deeply saddening that someone who just went to work every day, trying to make a living and support his family, would end up as a victim of such a brutal crime. I hope that folks around the college can continue to honor his memory and support one another in healing from this tragedy. It reminds me how important it is for communities to come together in times of loss, so no one feels alone in their grief.
