I was thinking about Dawan Jamal Hawkins, or "GaGa" as he was known. It's deeply upsetting to see how a person so cherished in his community and loved by his family can have their life cut short by violence. Knowing that his case—and so many others—remains unsolved is frustrating and saddening. It's like a chilling reminder of the heavier challenges Baltimore faces with gun violence. Hearing how Dawan had this gentle nature and could connect with so many people just makes you wonder how a soul like that could be taken from this world. It feels like he's become a number in this grim statistic of 2017, but we can't let these victims become just numbers. What else could we be doing to help those working to solve these cases? Maybe we can brainstorm ways to support families like Dawan's who are desperate for closure and justice. Thoughts?
