It's been seven years since Audrey Carey's tragic murder, and I still find myself thinking about her any time the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival is mentioned. It's chilling to imagine that what should have been a joyful weekend of music and community instead turned into such a nightmare for her. Every year, countless people travel to San Francisco to enjoy that festival, and Audrey was just one of them. She was a young woman exploring the world, simply wanting to experience the joy of live music. I can't help but wonder about the safety measures put in place since then. Has there been any significant increase in security or awareness at these events? It's always so difficult to balance the freedom and spontaneity that festivals embody with the need to keep everyone safe. My heart goes out to Audrey's family and friends who are still coping with this unimaginable loss. I can’t begin to fathom how difficult it must be for them each October when memories of her playful spirit and love for music resurface. Do you think enough has changed in terms of event safety, or are these risks still very much present? It’s something that weighs on me whenever I think about attending large gatherings.
