I’ve been thinking a lot about the role the community could play in solving Johnny Berry Cox's murder. It seems like a lot of cases hinge on someone coming forward with even the smallest piece of information. I know that the LAPD has been imploring people to share what they know, maybe anonymously through Crime Stoppers, but I’m curious about the potential barriers that might prevent someone from stepping up. Could fear of retaliation in the Vermont Square neighborhood be a big factor? Or maybe there’s a distrust of law enforcement that’s keeping people silent? I feel so deeply for Johnny’s family and friends, who must be desperate for answers and justice. It makes me wonder how communities can be better supported so that they feel safe and confident in coming forward with information. It’s such a tragedy when a case like this stalls, and I hope someone out there has the courage to speak up soon.
