I’ve always been particularly drawn to cold cases, and Leslie Spellman’s tragic murder has stayed with me. One aspect that haunts me is the fact that she was on this journey towards healing and community when her life was violently cut short. Leslie’s choice to hitchhike with her dog, Taylor, speaks volumes about the times and maybe even her spirit – perhaps she was trusting, free-spirited, searching for something greater. It just seems there was so much more she wanted to share with the world. It's heartbreaking for her loved ones who have carried this unsolved burden for so long. I wonder if she crossed paths with the wrong person during her travels or if someone knew she was headed to the Ashram community. It's been over four decades, and yet, every time I read about her case, I hope that there might finally be a break. Her family deserves answers, and her memory deserves justice. Does anyone know if there are still active efforts to reach folks who might’ve been in the area back then? Sometimes people might not realize they hold a vital piece of the puzzle. Her story deserves closure.
