Just finished reading more about the tragedy that took Alfonso Ibanez Jr.'s life. It's deeply unsettling to imagine such violence stemming from something as trivial as a truck maneuver. What's really grabbing my attention is Miguel Cruz's miraculous escape from that horrific scene. Surviving something so traumatic and then having the courage to testify in court—this man must possess incredible inner strength. His testimony was crucial in holding the perpetrators accountable. I can't help but feel for him, too. Living through such a terrifying experience and then reliving it in court must take a heavy toll. Sending strength and compassion to him and all the families touched by this nightmare.

Have any locals from Oakland noticed anything unusual around Empire and Gibraltar roads before that awful night back in 2016? It’s just so hard to fathom such violence could happen over something as trivial as doing doughnuts. My heart goes out to Alfonso’s family and friends. I keep thinking about how many of us have driven near that intersection without imagining something so awful happening there. It’s comforting to know that Miguel Cruz survived and his bravery helped bring justice for Alfonso and Juan. I just hope the community can find some peace after all this, even though the memory of such a tragic night is hard to shake. Anyone else following the trial proceedings closely? Would love to hear what others in the area think about the aftermath—has it changed the neighborhood vibe, or is everyone trying to move on?
