I’ve been following Fernando Medina’s case and can’t help but feel a deep sense of frustration about the broader issue of witness silence in gang-related deaths. It's understandable that fear of retaliation is a huge barrier for people coming forward, but I wish there was more we could do to protect witnesses so justice can be served. I remember reading about similar cases where innovative programs helped to build trust within communities, providing safe ways for witnesses to share what they know. Do you all think a community-led initiative might work to help get more information on Fernando’s case, or is that too risky given the circumstances in Westlake? My heart goes out to Fernando's family; they deserve answers and some form of closure.
