It's been almost five years, and I still find myself reflecting on Jake Dunham's story whenever I pass by the Borderline Bar & Grill. Jake's courage in facing personal hurdles is something that always struck a chord with me. Living with a rare bleeding disorder and partial blindness must have been challenging, yet he embraced life with an adventurous spirit. The way he lived his life serves as an inspiration to so many of us. To hear of his life being cut short while simply enjoying a night out with friends is devastating. It angers me that the system failed Jake and the other victims, allowing the gunman to slip through the cracks despite clear warning signs. His family's quest for justice is deeply moving. Their courage and determination remind us all that this isn't just about seeking accountability but also about making sure such tragic events don't destroy more lives in the future. Jake deserves to be remembered not just for how he died but for the vibrant person he was. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Let's continue to support one another and push for the changes needed to protect our communities and honor those we've lost.
