Has anyone else been digging into the relationship (or lack thereof) between Derek Leason and Rodney James Hartzel? The police haven't given us much to go on regarding how they knew each other, if at all. I can’t help but wonder if this is one of those tragic cases where a seemingly random act turns out to have a much deeper story behind it. I’ve lived in Newport Beach my whole life, and this type of crime feels so out of place here. It’s been hard not to speculate about what could have motivated such a terrible act. Whether they had a personal connection or it was something else entirely, my heart goes out to Derek's friends and family who are left with more questions than answers right now. I’m keeping an eye on the court proceedings and hoping they start revealing some details so we can at least piece together the "why" behind this tragedy. I truly hope justice is given the proper avenue, and the truth comes out soon. If anyone else has any info or thoughts, I'd love to discuss more.
