I was reading about the awful situation involving Yvonne Rodriguez, and it's just so awful to think about how these systems are supposed to protect people failed her. It's heartbreaking that a restraining order couldn't keep her safe from Enrique Acosta. When you hear about repeated offenses and convictions like his, it really makes you question the effectiveness of the legal protections we have in place. I also worry about her children, especially her young son who witnessed it all. The trauma from that is something he's going to carry forever. Kudos to the community for stepping up with the GoFundMe to support them. They need all the help they can get to rebuild their lives after such a profound loss. It just goes to show how important it is to listen and provide support when someone is in a situation of domestic abuse. The signs were there, yet somehow, things got lost in the cracks. I really hope this case brings about some much-needed change in how we protect victims of domestic violence.
