I'm thinking a lot about the plea deal that Matias Mendoza got. It's so frustrating to see someone involved in such a horrific crime basically walk away with a slap on the wrist. How can we expect justice for Carolina and her family when the system allows this? I can't even imagine the heartache they're experiencing, knowing her killer isn’t serving any real time. Knowing how these gangs operate and the fear they instill in communities, it seems like the deal sends the wrong message. It makes me wonder how many more people have to suffer before we see changes in how these crimes are prosecuted. Anyone else feel this way? What more can be done to prevent these plea deals, especially in gang-related cases?
