I've been following the tragic case of Antonio Dotson and can't help but think about the impact his loss has had on his loved ones. It's a stark reminder of how these kinds of violent acts send shockwaves far beyond just the individual directly involved. In our community, people are struggling to come to terms with not just losing someone, but losing the potential of who they might have become. Dotson was only 29, still so much of his life ahead of him. His death brings into focus how important it is for us to advocate for stronger community programs to divert youth away from gang involvement. We often talk about needing justice for the victims, and rightly so, but it's equally vital to work on the ground-level factors contributing to these tragedies. I'm hopeful that the legal proceedings will bring some semblance of closure to his family. There’s a collective community pain, and it calls for us to be relentless in both preventing similar incidents and remembering those who’ve been taken from us all too soon.
