I recently stumbled across the case of Jacory Carter, and I can't stop thinking about how little media attention his tragic death received back in 2014. It's frustrating and disheartening to see how often these stories fade into the background, especially when they're so crucial to understanding the struggles faced by young people in certain neighborhoods. What's most striking to me is how Jacory’s community rallied together despite the lack of coverage. The vigil organized by Silence Is Violence speaks volumes about their determination to honor Jacory and Skye Johnson, ensuring their lives weren't lost in vain. It's inspiring to see community organizations taking a stand, even when the spotlight is elsewhere. The "Exhibit BE" murals also feel like such a powerful testament to their resilience and commitment to change. Having this art serve as both a memorial and a call to action is incredibly moving. It seems like such efforts should be part of the larger conversation, reminding us all that these young lives matter deeply and deserve more attention. My heart goes out to Jacory’s family and friends, and to everyone in New Orleans who continues to push for change.
