Daniel Martin Shealor, 52, was shot and killed on the morning of August 12, 2022, along Highway 20 near Fort Bragg, California. He was taken to Adventist Health Mendocino Coast and died of his injuries. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office classified the death as a homicide and opened an investigation.

Detectives identified Shayne Wrede as the primary suspect. Wrede, who was out on bail in an unrelated matter, failed to appear in court on August 16, 2022, prompting a felony arrest warrant. He was located in Sacramento on August 25, 2022, by the US Marshal Service Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, attempted to flee but was apprehended and returned to Mendocino County jail on $575,000 bail. Investigators conducted interviews and asked the public for surveillance footage from the area around the scene.
