It's so tragic to think about the tension that must have surrounded Salvatore "Toto" D'Aquila in the days and weeks leading up to his murder. Living with the constant awareness that enemies were lurking in the shadows must have been incredibly stressful not just for him, but also for his family. The fact that his assassination was likely orchestrated by someone within his own ranks makes it even more haunting. It's difficult to imagine how his loved ones processed the betrayal that resulted in his death. Even amidst a life surrounded by crime and power struggles, nobody deserves to be taken out by those supposed to be allies. D'Aquila's story is yet another reminder of how quickly loyalty can turn into betrayal in the world of organized crime. For his family and those close to him, this must have been a hard chapter, knowing justice would likely never be served.
