I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact this tragedy had on the children who were hidden away in the closet during the Westernville New Year's Day shooting. Anita MacLachlan showed incredible presence of mind to protect her boys in such a terrifying situation. It must have been so traumatic for them to be shielded away, hearing the chaos unfold outside. My heart goes out to them as they’ve had to carry this burden into adulthood. I hope they received the support and counseling they’d have needed after experiencing such an unimaginable loss. It’s easy to get caught up in the details of what happened, but the human aspects of such tragedies are just as significant. If anyone knows more about how they coped afterward, I’d be interested in hearing about it. Healing takes so much time, and I wish the best for those kids, now adults, navigating life after such an event.
