I've been thinking a lot about the circumstances of Deputy Dils' tragedy recently. It's so tragic to think that he was only weeks away from retirement after nearly two decades of service. I can’t even begin to imagine how his family felt, expecting to spend more time with him after retirement only to have their hopes and dreams shattered in an instant. His commitment to his duty even in those last weeks shows what kind of person he was, always putting others first. I just hope that his family found some comfort in knowing how much he was respected and admired by the community and that his name lives on at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. My thoughts are with them.
