I can’t believe it’s been over 30 years since this tragedy. It’s haunting to think about the impact this had—not only on the victims’ families but on the entire community. I’ve always wondered about the legal aftermath, especially the lawsuit by Andrew Lazan against the City of New York. It must have been so difficult for him and Stanley Sultan to live through such a traumatic event and then navigate through legal battles while trying to recover. It makes me think about how survivors often have to fight for justice and support long after the headlines fade. I hope they found some sense of peace. My heart truly goes out to all involved.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the behind-the-scenes courage of those wedding party members who stepped in to help Stanley Sultan that tragic day in Little Neck. It’s easy to overlook the actions of bystanders in these events, but imagine being in their place. They were likely just preparing to celebrate a joyous occasion and stumbled into a nightmare instead. Their quick decision to help probably saved Stanley's life, transporting him to Booth Memorial in such critical condition. It’s a small light in an otherwise overwhelming darkness, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy. The resilience and courage shown by those who stepped in deserve recognition beyond the horrific details that tend to dominate discussions of these cases. They showed a humanity that can easily be forgotten when faced with incomprehensible violence.
