I recently came across the story of Duriel Lamar Ryans, and I can't stop thinking about how much this young life was cut short. It’s truly devastating that Duriel lost his life at just 17, with so much potential ahead. From what I understand, he was trying to walk away from a conflict, which shows a strength and maturity beyond his years.
What really struck me is the strength of his father, Clifford Ryan. Founding OG's Against Violence is such an incredible way to honor Duriel’s memory and to help stop similar tragedies. Clifford’s relentless commitment to engaging with and protecting the community, despite the dangers he faces, shows immense courage. His work reminds us all of the huge impact one person can have when they dedicate themselves to a cause.
I genuinely hope that continued community support and involvement can provide Clifford and others who’ve faced similar losses with the strength they need to keep pushing forward. We owe it to Duriel and others like him to work towards a safer environment for everyone. Would love to hear other people’s thoughts on community initiatives like this, and if there are any similar stories from your own cities.
I just came across the case of Duriel Lamar Ryans, and it’s really weighing on my mind. It’s devastating to think about how a life full of potential was so abruptly ended over an argument. It makes me wonder about the missed opportunities for intervention before things escalated to such a violent outcome. With very few details available about the investigation or any arrests, it’s concerning to think there might not be full closure for the family.
What stands out to me is the way Duriel's father, Clifford Ryan, transformed his grief into something profoundly impactful. Founding OG’s Against Violence is nothing short of inspiring. It’s a reminder of how one person’s determination can ignite change in a whole community. Clifford’s dedication, even when facing danger himself, is so incredibly powerful, and it shows how vital it is to have such positive role models in our communities, especially for the youth. If just one life can be saved through his efforts, it makes a world of difference.
Does anyone know more about the impact that Clifford’s organization might have had on violence rates in Syracuse? It's evident he's making strides, but I'd love to hear more personal stories or experiences related to his work.
