I’ve been following the discussion about the Wendy's massacre and couldn’t stop thinking about Anita Smith, especially her aspirations to become a teacher for kids with autism. It’s beyond tragic to think of the bright future she had ahead of her — starting college in the fall, ready to make a difference. As someone who works with kids on the spectrum, this really hits home. It's important we remember her for who she was and what she dreamed to achieve, not just as a victim of a horrible crime. Does anyone know if there were any scholarships or memorial funds set up in her name? It would be meaningful to see her passion for education live on in some way, helping others even after her passing.
