Wow, just thinking about the impact this must've had on Brooks' family and friends is overwhelming. Beyond the obvious tragedy of losing someone so dedicated, what stands out to me is the sheer randomness and brutality of the attack. The fact that Brooks was just doing his job, protecting the community, when that suspect chose to respond with such violence is hard to comprehend. I read that Brooks had such a long and respected career in law enforcement, and to have his life taken in such a senseless way is just so profoundly unfair. My thoughts are definitely with his wife and kids, and everyone who knew him. It must take an incredible amount of strength to navigate through this kind of grief. Feeling so much empathy for all who've been affected by this tragedy.
