I wanted to bring up something I read recently about Mario Young's case that really got me thinking. The whole situation is incredibly tragic, and I can't stop thinking about what could have been done differently to prevent it. I've heard a lot of discussion about the lack of recreational spaces and support systems for kids in areas like Far Rockaway. It seems like there aren’t enough safe places for young people to hang out, away from the influence of gangs.
I've been following the efforts some local groups are making to change this, like setting up after-school programs and sports activities, but I'm wondering if there are more effective strategies out there that could really make a difference. It's just so sad that Mario's story isn't unique—so many families have gone through similar losses. How can communities better come together to protect their young people from this cycle of violence? Would love to hear thoughts or examples of what’s worked in other areas.
