I’ve been thinking a lot about De Marco's Pizzeria and how the tragic events of March 14, 2007, forever changed that place. It used to be a spot full of laughter and the smell of freshly baked pizza, a simple comfort for many in Greenwich Village. Now, it serves as a haunting reminder of the day Alfredo Romero lost his life in such a senseless act of violence. I can't even begin to imagine the trauma for those who witnessed the tragedy, including Alfredo's friends and loved ones. Margie De Marco must have faced an incredibly difficult decision closing down the pizzeria, knowing it held such a grim memory for the community. It's just so tough thinking about how a place that brought people together had to close its doors in the aftermath of something so devastating. Does anyone know if there have been any commemorative events or memorials dedicated to Alfredo and the two brave auxiliary officers who lost their lives that day? Maybe a way the community has tried to heal over the years?
