I came across Tyquan “Twin” Pass’s case while reading about unsolved crimes, and it really stuck with me. It just tears me apart thinking about how someone with aspirations, like joining the military, could have their life cut short so violently. I grew up without much family myself, so I relate to that feeling of finding family in friends and community. It’s painfully sad that people who become your family out of mutual life experience have to deal with such a tragic loss. I also can't help but wonder about the gun violence issue in the New Brighton area. It seems there was a spike in shootings around that time, and it’s concerning to think about how many lives have been affected, whether directly or indirectly. It makes me think about what could be done to address these issues more effectively. If anyone here is from Staten Island and has insights on how the community is coping or what steps are being taken to ensure safety, I’d appreciate if you could share. Tyquan deserved more, and so do all the other young people at risk.
