I can't stop thinking about how Shoshane's situation highlights the glaring gaps in our system when it comes to protecting victims of domestic violence. It’s so frustrating to hear about all the warning signs — neighbors hearing her cries, the withdrawn rape complaint — and still nothing was done to prevent this tragic end. My heart goes out to her little boy who had to experience this loss at such a young age. You have to wonder how many other cases out there are silently bearing the same risk. We need to push for change so that victims feel safe coming forward and trust that they’ll be protected. It’s too late for Shoshane, but maybe we can help prevent this from happening to someone else in the future.

Hey everyone, I’ve been following the tragic case of Shoshane Rattigan and was really struck by how much her neighbors had witnessed over time. It seems like they often heard arguments and her pleas for help. It’s upsetting to think about how many people might have known something wasn’t right but felt helpless in doing anything substantive to stop it. It makes you wonder how communities can better support those who are suffering in silence. I know it’s easy to say what we’d do differently in hindsight, but in the moment, it must have been so difficult for her neighbors to navigate the situation, especially if they feared involvement or retaliation. It’s terrifying to think about how this happened right under everyone's noses, and yet it seemed like all the interventions fell short. There’s a part of me that feels for everyone involved, knowing how many people are part of this story’s fabric — from friends and family to neighbors who heard her cries. Sending love and strength to Shoshane’s loved ones who are enduring this unimaginable loss. If anyone has thoughts on how communities can better address domestic violence or ways we might all help, I’d love to hear them. Stay safe, everyone.

It's truly difficult to process what's happened to Shoshane Rattigan. My heart goes out to her son—how terrifying it must have been for him to hear that gunshot and have his world change forever. I read that her cousin was in the apartment too—what a traumatic experience for both of them. It's such a tragic reminder that domestic violence impacts not just the immediate victim but also the children and other family members. I really hope their family has access to support and counseling to help them cope with this nightmare. The fact that Shoshane had reached out for help in the past makes it even more agonizing, knowing there were lost opportunities to possibly prevent this. I'm just so sorry for her, her son, and everyone who loved her.
