I've been thinking a lot about the environment Johnnie was in when this tragic incident happened. It's just so incredibly frustrating that areas like Red Hook West Houses continue facing issues like this. The complexity of the situation can't be denied, but it really makes you wonder how things might change for the better. It seems like so many potential witnesses don't come forward, and understandably so, given the fear of retaliation in these neighborhoods. My heart goes out to his family, especially his sister and mother, who are now left to navigate this traumatic world without him. While it's vital to remember him for the great man he was, I sincerely hope that his case prompts deeper conversations about not just crime, but safety and community support too. Everyone deserves to feel safe where they live. There's still hope that justice will be served, and I truly believe collective efforts in these areas will make a difference someday.
