I've been reading up on Joann Gravette's case, and it's just so upsetting to think about her last moments. I can't get over the fact that she had an order of protection against Tyquan Long, and yet it didn't prevent this tragedy. It's absolutely chilling that he was able to just walk into her apartment despite everything she did to keep him away. Why aren't these protective orders more effective? Joann did everything right by ending the relationship and taking legal measures, yet it still wasn't enough to keep her safe. It makes me wonder how the system can be improved so that more lives aren't lost in similar circumstances. Her family and friends must be going through so much right now, knowing that this could possibly have been avoided. I hope they're surrounded by support and love during such a difficult time. If anyone has suggestions or knows more about how protective orders could be enforced better, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
