I recently came across the story of Duval Connell and couldn't shake the feeling of sadness about the unfulfilled potential of his life. He was so close to achieving something amazing—a bachelor's degree in psychology from the College of New Rochelle. It's just so unfair how someone who was genuinely trying to turn their life around could get caught up in such a violent fate. What stands out to me is the way his family and friends chose to respond by holding vigils and sharing stories about his dedication to improving his life. It makes you wonder how we, as a community, can support people who are striving to change their paths and what more can be done to make it easier for them to succeed. Duval’s story is a sobering testament to why societal issues like crime can’t be ignored and why it’s crucial we work toward solutions that prevent such tragedies from happening again. ?
