Hey all,
I’ve been thinking a lot about the timing of Kahlil Barnes' tragic death. It’s hard not to be moved by the fact that it happened just before the funeral of Elijah Cancer, another victim of senseless violence. It feels like a stark reminder of the cycle of grief this community is enduring. I can't imagine the heartache Barnes' friends and family are going through, losing someone right before they were already preparing to say goodbye to another loved one.
It's frustrating that no arrests have been made yet. I can only hope that the investigation brings forth answers soon. I wonder what more can be done to get people to come forward with information. There’s always that fear, I guess, of retribution or getting involved, but every bit of info could be crucial. I support any efforts to build trust between law enforcement and the community because that seems key to making progress.
If anyone knows of initiatives or groups working towards reducing violence in Albany, I’d love to hear more about them. It's too late to save Kahlil and Elijah, but maybe we can prevent more families from experiencing this pain.
Stay safe, everyone.
