I came across Corey Mercadel's case, and what struck me most was the community's involvement—or lack thereof. It's so difficult trying to wrap my head around how an incident like this can happen in a neighborhood like the Upper Ninth Ward and not have more folks willing to step forward with information. I understand the fear and intimidation that might exist, but I can't help but feel that Corey and his family deserve justice, and that requires courage from witnesses. With Lee Coleman identified as a person of interest, I'm hopeful someone might have seen or heard something that could tip the scale for the investigators. Sending my thoughts to Corey's loved ones. If you know anything, please don't stay silent. It could make a world of difference.
