Tyquan Eversley was 21 and a father when he was killed in a violent, public attack in East New York, Brooklyn. On the afternoon of March 19, 2019, at about 5:15 p.m., he was punched without provocation near New Lots Avenue and Cleveland Street. Surveillance video shows a group of roughly 10 men pursuing him on foot and in a car for several blocks; the chase ended behind a home on Elton Street where Eversley became entangled in barbed wire atop a six-foot fence.

While he was trapped, one man threw a large rock or boulder at him and another shot him five times. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Police described the killing as brutal and brazen and released the footage, which generated tips and multiple arrests. Michael Reid, 25, was charged with murder and criminal possession for allegedly throwing the rock; Donaven McDay, 29, was identified as the suspected gunman and charged with murder and weapon possession; Alfred Crooks, 22, and Rahmel Briggs, 22, were also charged with murder. Several other men were arrested on related charges, but a Brooklyn judge dismissed charges in October 2020 against four defendants, finding insufficient evidence they knew a murder would occur or intended serious injury.

Does anyone have information about Tyquan’s movements that afternoon or remember seeing the chase near New Lots Avenue and Elton Street?
