Hey everyone, I've been following Steven Silks' tragic case and something that's been on my mind is the mental health aspect surrounding his death. It's incredibly sad to think that such a dedicated and accomplished individual felt he had no other option. I've been reading that his friends and colleagues were shocked, even noting he'd shown signs of depression but hadn't sought help.
It's a somber reminder of the hidden struggles many law enforcement officers face despite their strong exteriors. There's so much pressure in these roles, and it seems like there often isn't enough support or avenues for them to reach out without fear of stigma. Do any of you think policies or programs in the NYPD or other departments have changed since? It's crucial to have these discussions, not only to honor Deputy Chief Silks' life and service but to prevent future tragedies. Thoughts?
