It's been a few years since this unimaginable loss, but I'm still struck by how senseless and random violence can tear people apart. I never knew Winston McKay personally, but from what I've read about him, he seemed like such a wonderful human being—dedicated to his role as a college librarian and always there for his loved ones. My heart truly goes out to Terry Solomon, Winston's husband, who was left behind to navigate life without his partner. Just imagining how they had celebrated their anniversary with friends and family, only to have such a joyous occasion turn into a time of mourning, is beyond painful. I can't help but think of Milton, their dog, too. Dogs sense when something is wrong, and I'm sure Milton is missing Winston just as much. Seeing Bautista and McClain being arrested must have been bittersweet for those who knew Winston. It’s some form of justice, yes, but it doesn’t fill the void left behind. I wish strength to everyone in Winston's circle as they continue to deal with this tragedy and hope for justice to be fully served.
