Hey everyone,
I've been following Terrance McAvoy's case, and something that's been on my mind a lot is the discussion surrounding mental health for officers like him. Isn't it just so gut-wrenching to think about how someone who dedicated their life to serving and protecting others might have felt they couldn't get the help they needed? It's crucial we talk more about the pressures our law enforcement faces daily.
I do wonder if the NYPD's efforts to enhance mental health resources are enough or if they're truly accessible for everyone on the force. Has anyone heard about any officers actually engaging with these programs, like the POPPA or the Employee Assistance Unit? It just seems there's got to be a more proactive way to connect officers with these resources before things spiral so far out of control. Let me know your thoughts on this and any insights you might have on the effectiveness of these services.
Thinking of Terrance and sending love to his family and friends during this time. We all need to push for change so this doesn't keep happening. ?
Stay safe, everyone.
