I can't stop thinking about the pressures our police officers face daily. Reading about Johnny Rios and so many others makes me wonder about the silent battles these officers endure. Johnny seemed like such a gentle soul, his neighbors spoke really highly of him. It’s so sad that behind that quiet exterior might have been so much pain. It’s crucial for us as a community to rally around our officers—not just in the aftermath of a tragedy like Johnny’s but ongoing, in every aspect of their lives. I really hope that the NYPD's new mental health initiatives will make a meaningful impact. It’s not just about offering help, but making sure they feel safe enough to take it. Sending love and light to Johnny’s family, friends, and all those serving on the force.

It's really difficult to wrap my head around the loss of Officer Johnny Rios, and my heart goes out to his family and friends, especially his girlfriend who was there at the time. It must have been incredibly traumatic for her. What stands out to me is how these events are really shining a light on the mental health struggles within law enforcement. It’s concerning that he was the eighth NYPD officer to take his own life that year. Being assigned to Yankee Stadium might have seemed like a positive change or an exciting detail, but even so, it doesn’t shield someone from the hidden battles they might be facing. The department’s response in promoting mental health resources is crucial, but I wonder about the steps they're taking to change the culture around mental health. Are officers really feeling supported and safe to reach out for help?
