It's truly awful to hear about what happened to Michael Scully. I keep thinking about the impact this must have had on his family and friends, especially those in his neighborhood who saw him daily and knew him as the "unofficial mayor." One thing that's been on my mind is the role Vayos saw himself playing in the community. It seems like he thought he was some kind of protector or enforcer. But instead of helping, his actions ended up tearing apart the very fabric of the community he claimed to care about. It's a stark reminder of how dangerous it can be when someone takes justice into their own hands without any real understanding or authority to do so. I can’t imagine how uneasy this has made everyone in Bay Ridge feel now—a place where neighbors once felt secure and trusting with each other. My heart truly goes out to Michael's family and everyone else dealing with the aftermath of such a senseless act. They not only lost such a kind person but their entire sense of community is upended. It's hard to find the words for such a senseless tragedy.
