Has anyone else been following the court proceedings for Maliki Johnson? I can't help but think about how young he was when this all happened and wonder about the circumstances that led up to it. I keep asking myself whether there were opportunities to intervene in his life before it came to this. It’s such a sad situation for everyone involved—Javon Merrill's family has suffered an unimaginable loss, and now Johnson's life is irrevocably changed too. I'm curious about others' thoughts on how we, as a community, can do more to prevent youth from getting involved in gangs and violence. What more could be done to create spaces and programs where kids feel they have alternatives? My heart goes out to both families affected by this tragedy.
