Did anyone else find it odd that Swanton Wyman Jr.'s boat was found with some lobster traps still aboard? As a lobsterman, he likely had a routine for checking those traps, so why would some still be left on the boat? It's been over 40 years, and it feels like a tiny detail that could hold some significance. Maybe he was in a hurry for some reason, or something unexpected interrupted his usual practice? We may never know, but I'm curious if anyone with more knowledge of lobstering could weigh in. Could weather or boat issues result in an experienced lobsterman leaving traps on board? I just feel like it's one piece of this puzzling case that doesn't quite fit.
I was just digging into Swanton Wyman Jr.'s case again and stumbled upon a detail that intrigues me. The fact that some of his lobster traps were still on his boat when it was found adrift has always seemed odd to me. If he did fall overboard while checking the traps, wouldn't you expect more of them to be in the water? It's not like he just started his day; he likely would have been mid-task. Could it mean he was interrupted by something? Or perhaps he noticed something wrong with the boat and stopped to address it? It's a small detail, but it always makes me wonder if we’re missing a crucial piece of the puzzle here. Anyone else have thoughts on what the half-emptied traps might imply about those last moments?
