I was just reading up on the tragic shooting near Edna Karr High School back in 2017, and it's absolutely chilling to think about what those young men must have experienced in their final moments. One detail that stands out to me is how the shooting occurred as they were trying to leave after being turned away due to the gym being over capacity. It's just devastating to think they were caught in such a dangerous situation while making an attempt to leave. What's even more concerning is how such violence boiled over into a public space where families and students were gathered to enjoy a school basketball game. I can't imagine the fear everyone inside the gym must have felt hearing about the shooting just outside. It raises a lot of questions for me about safety measures and what can be done to prevent gang disputes from spilling into everyday community events. The involvement of organized crime in this makes it even more terrifying. Feeling so much for Wynston's and Lawrence's families who are enduring unimaginable pain and loss. They deserve justice and peace. I hope the authorities are getting closer to resolving these cases, and that communities can come together to tackle the root causes of such violence.
