I’ve been following Kade Lewin’s case, and something that really stands out to me is the strength and resilience of his mother, Suzette. I can't imagine the pain she must be going through, but her determination to keep Kade's memory alive and to fight for justice is truly admirable. I saw that she’s been organizing vigils and has been outspoken about stopping gun violence. It's so important for the community to continue supporting her and the family during this incredibly difficult time. They should know they’re not alone in this fight, and there are people who stand with them. I really hope that someone with information comes forward soon. No family should have to endure this kind of pain.
Every time I think about what happened to Kade, I just can't wrap my mind around the sheer randomness and senselessness of it all. This young boy was simply sitting in a car with his family — a space that should have been safe. Kade’s cousin, Jenna, must be going through so much, too, after surviving such a traumatic event. I think about how close she came to losing her own life and what a miracle it is that little Kylie came away physically unscathed. It’s heartbreaking to see how a few moments can change lives forever.
His mom, Suzette, is such a strong woman. Renaming a portion of Linden Boulevard after her son shows the power of community and serves to keep Kade’s memory alive. It’s infuriating that the shooter has not been caught yet. The fact that it could take just one brave person to come forward with the right information makes me hopeful that justice will eventually be served. This case is a stark reminder that we need to address this epidemic of gun violence sooner rather than later, so no other family has to endure such pain.
