I can’t stop thinking about how the tension between the communities might have impacted the trial. It’s so upsetting that Joel’s life was cut short and yet it seems like the focus shifted to the broader racial issues rather than bringing justice for him. I truly feel for his family, who must have felt an overwhelming mix of grief and frustration. The protests and calls for a civil rights investigation highlight how deep-rooted these issues were at the time, and possibly still are. It's heartbreaking to see how racial dynamics can sometimes overshadow the quest for truth and justice. It makes me wonder if things would have turned out differently if the case were handled in a less charged environment.
