Hey everyone, I wanted to discuss something that's been on my mind regarding the tragic case of Chyna Doll Dupree, also known to family and friends as Joshua Gibson. I know this case hits hard for a lot of us, especially those in the trans community, as it highlights the growing dangers so many face just trying to live authentically. But a particular part of this case that has been so concerning is how Chyna was shot outside a busy shopping center. In broad daylight, during a time when New Orleans was buzzing with people for Mardi Gras. It's shocking that such a violent act could take place in such a public setting without anyone stepping in or more immediate action being taken to catch the suspect. It's a harsh reminder of how vulnerable this community can be and the dire need for better protection and allyship from the wider public. Knowing she had planned to celebrate with family and enjoy the festivities makes it even more urgent for us to keep discussing ways to ensure safety for everyone, especially during big public events. My thoughts are with Chyna's friends and family. They deserve justice and for her light and spirit to be remembered beyond the crime that took her away. Let's keep pushing for awareness and change.

Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about Joshua Gibson, also known to many as Chyna Doll Dupree, and I can’t help but feel a profound sense of loss for someone who brought joy and artistry into so many lives. I recently read that she was back in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, a time that should have been filled with celebration and reconnection, not tragedy. As a performer, I’m sure Chyna was anticipating all the vibrant energy and creativity Mardi Gras is known for. It's devastating to think that such a beloved figure in the community had her life taken away so abruptly. I keep wondering about the broader implications of this awful occurrence. It’s clear that the safety of transgender women of color continues to be at risk, and it’s crucial that communities, officials, and advocates work tirelessly to change this. Every person deserves to live without fear. My heart goes out to Chyna’s family and loved ones during this incredibly challenging time. We must remember her beautiful spirit and continue to demand justice and safety for all members of the LGBTQ+ community.
