I came across an interesting tidbit while reading about Ernie Shaw’s case. Apparently, Ernie had a passion for fishing and often went out on his own. Given the dense wilderness around Ketchikan, it’s easy to wonder if he had ventured out on a solo trip when things went sideways. While McClelland and Wulf were charged fairly quickly, I can't help but think about the countless scenarios that might have played out in such a rugged area. Does anyone know if there were any significant search efforts in those surrounding woods or if volunteers were involved? Just thinking about how easily someone or something could go unnoticed out there for so long.
Has anyone else been following the details of the Earston "Ernie" Shaw case? I came across a little tidbit that keeps puzzling me. I've read that both John Wulf and John McClelland were charged with his murder, but does anyone know if there was any physical evidence linking them to the crime, or was it purely circumstantial? It's been decades, so I'm really curious if any new information or modern forensic techniques might have shed more light on what actually happened. Would love any insights or info from locals who might remember more about the trial or the evidence presented back then.
