Has anyone else been following the situation with Dwayne Cheeks' personal property? It's absolutely baffling to me how the Baltimore Police Department can claim they 'destroyed' items that were rightfully his mother's. I understand mistakes happen, but this feels like more than just an error. It adds such an unnecessary layer of pain for his family who are already dealing with an unimaginable loss. I can't even begin to understand why the BPD would ignore their own policies and common decency. How can a department move forward with so little accountability? My heart truly goes out to Dwayne's mother and family, who deserve answers and closure—not more obstacles and legal battles just for basic rights. It feels like they're not just fighting for Dwayne, but for all families affected by such ineptitude. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I recently came across the tragic case of Dwayne Cheeks, and I can't stop thinking about his family's struggle, especially his mother. It must be incredibly frustrating and painful to not only lose a loved one in such a senseless way but then also have to deal with the police mishandling his belongings. The notion that the BPD destroyed Dwayne's personal items, despite them not holding any evidentiary value, is just beyond comprehension. These were possessions that likely held sentimental value to his family—pieces of his life they could have held onto during their grieving process. It's upsetting that instead of focusing all their energy on finding justice for Dwayne, they're forced to take legal action to address the BPD's negligence. I really admire Dwayne’s mother's relentless pursuit to find answers, passing out photos, and keeping his memory alive. It speaks volumes about her strength and determination. It's these kinds of injustices that make it so hard for families to heal. I truly hope the family gets some answers and that this lawsuit sheds light on the systemic issues at play, paving the way for better treatment of victims' families in Baltimore. Thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
