Has anyone looked into whether David Spies might have been seen in any homeless shelters or soup kitchens between Omaha and Salina around the time he went missing? Hitchhiking can be unpredictable, and if something went sideways with his plans, he might have sought help along his route. It’s puzzling that there are no reports of sightings after that last phone call. Has there been any attempt to match him with unidentified persons in Kansas or Nebraska from around that time? Some folks have had luck running DNA comparisons or pursuing similar leads with missing person cases. Just a thought, but every piece of info could help.
Has anyone looked into the possibility of David getting picked up by a long-haul trucker during his attempt to hitchhike? It was 1997 after all, and that was a common way for people without cars to get from place to place. If he was trying to make it from Omaha to Salina, he might have thought a trucker would be a reliable ride. Maybe there's a chance he got into a vehicle with someone and something went wrong. I wonder if law enforcement checked into trucking companies that had routes through that area at the time. It's been so long, but perhaps someone who might have given him a ride could provide new information or remember seeing him. Any thoughts or insights on this angle?
