Just read about Thomas Nazzaro's tragic fall on the Matanuska Glacier. I can't help but wonder about the dangers of crevasses and how they sometimes catch even the most experienced hikers by surprise. I remember hearing about another case a few years back where a seasoned mountaineer fell into a crevasse, and it was almost impossible to retrieve the body because of the depth and injuries. Why do these schools and programs sometimes let students trek without their full gear? Not questioning the school's protocols without knowing more, but it really raises the issue of how risky these glacier trips can truly be. I'm hoping they consider increased safety measures after this incident. What are everyone’s thoughts on safety gear while hiking such perilous terrains?
