Reading about Walter Mpang Halle Elangwe’s case has really left me with so many questions, especially about how young offenders are handled in our justice system. It's chilling to think that Jaden Crowner, who was involved in such a violent act at just 14, was somehow able to escalate to the point of committing murder. How do we as a society fail to intervene effectively before it gets to this level? My heart goes out to Elangwe’s family, knowing they lost a loved one to such senseless violence. The fact that Crowner was already in jail for another murder when he was charged with Elangwe’s death just baffles me—it's like there were multiple chances for the system to step in. I hope that with Crowner's sentencing, it brings some measure of closure to the family. But it just makes you wonder about the potential for reform and rehabilitation, especially for young people who show violent tendencies. Shouldn't there be more focus on preventing these escalations before it reaches such tragic outcomes? Sending thoughts to all of Walter’s friends and family during this continued painful journey.
