I’ve been reading up on the case of German Ernesto Chavez-Moreno, and something that strikes me is the lack of concrete evidence or sightings since he disappeared in 2003. Given the circumstances of his planned border crossing, is it possible that he might have fallen victim to human trafficking or been caught in some dangerous situation along the route that prevents him from contacting anyone? I know these border areas can be incredibly perilous with all sorts of risks involved for those attempting to cross. It’s baffling and really concerning that not a single lead has surfaced in all these years. Is there any indication that his group of friends made it across safely? Any information on what happened to them might shed light on German’s mysterious disappearance.
Has anyone else looked into the terrain around the area where German Chavez-Moreno was last seen? I've been reading about migrations through Mexicali, and the desert conditions can be brutal. With the U.S.-Mexico border so close, it's possible that the group he was with might have encountered natural obstacles that weren't anticipated. The heat around June can be dangerously high, especially if they were traveling mostly on foot without enough water. I wonder if there were any reports around that time of others going missing or being found in that area, which might relate to his case. Maybe someone local or familiar with border crossing points near Mexicali can shed some light on this?
